Training

Training in the INPP Method is being offered in South Africa for the first time, in connection with the INPP (International). The Institute for Neuro-Physiological Psychology (INPP) was established in 1975 by psychologist Peter Blythe Ph.D, as a private research organization to investigate the effects of immaturity in the functioning of the central nervous system in children with Specific Learning Difficulties and adults suffering from Agoraphobia and Panic Disorder; to devise reliable methods of assessment; and to develop, supervise and evaluate effective programs of remedial intervention. Since its inception 50 years ago, the INPP has treated many thousands of children and adults with problems linked to immaturity in the functioning of the central nervous system, as well conducting and publishing research into the efficacy of methods developed.

This is a postgraduate course (4 intensive weeks through the year, with individual learning and assignments between) that teaches the basis of the INPP approach to understanding and treating neurodevelopmental delay. Note that this is not specifically focused on neurodiversity, but is instead focused on the primitive and postural reflexes that are part of the neurology of all humans. Modules 1 and 4 are conducted online, with Modules 2 and 3 in person. At the end of the course, upon successfully completing the assessments and exams, qualified individuals are able to fully assess the vestibular, auditory, visual and reflex profiles, and put in place an individual therapy program to integrate the reflexes.

More information regarding this course can be found here. This is a postgraduate qualification that is recognised in the UK and can form credit towards certain Masters’ programmes.

Fees: R80,000 per participant.

Trainers: Pauline Shannon, INPP UK Principal (in-person), Christine Payard, INPP Australia Principal (online).

We are excited to announce dates for the first course to take place in South Africa!

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the exams, and after one supervision session, participants are able to register to become an INPP Licentiate. Licentiates are expected to attend supervision on average every two years, of which one supervision every four years should be in-person. Registration as a Licentiate gives you access to the wealth of resource of INPP International, as well as being part of a supportive community of practitioners and researchers.
